As the countdown begins until the The Devil Wears Prada 2 hit screens on May 1 in the US (April 30 in Australia), global beauty giant L’Oreal Paris has made a glamorous headline-worthy splash to celebrate the upcoming sequel.

In ultimate Hollywood fashion, L’Oreal Paris kicked off its promotional collab with the 20th Century Studios movie on Tinsel Town’s night of nights: the 98th Annual Academy Awards.

The custom Oscars ad spot showed global ambassadors Kendall Jenner and Simone Ashley, where we’re introduced to Ashley’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 character, Amari, who’s one of Miranda Priestly’s latest assistants.

Meanwhile, Jenner is mistaken as a candidate for the Runway magazine editor’s new assistant. What’s more, we see another South Asian in the frame, with A Nice Indian Boy actor Karan Soni playing the staffer responsible for the mix-up.

“Working on this film has been a true career highlight and bringing it further to life with this spot with L’Oréal Paris has been so much fun,” Simone Ashley said in an official press statement. “I loved working with both the L’Oréal Paris and Disney teams and can’t wait for ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ fans to see what we created.”

This clip is just the first of a longer partnership between L’Oreal Paris and Disney to celebrate one of the most anticipated Hollywood flicks of 2026, that celebrates strong women, self-expression and style.

“Teaming up with ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ lets us show up in a moment that defines beauty and pop culture, and at a scale that matches the legacy of the film,” said L’Oreal Paris USA Brand President, Laura Branik.

“Launching this collaboration on Oscars night, with a spot that pays homage to the story and brings together our global ambassadors Kendall Jenner and Simone Ashley, is a meaningful way to reinforce what L’Oréal Paris stands for: celebrating women who set the standard, on screen and in real life.”

Lylle Breier, EVP, Partnerships, Promotions, Synergy & Events at Disney added: “Confidence, glamour, and humor are at the heart of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2. We are delighted to collaborate with iconic beauty house L’Oréal Paris to celebrate the release of the new film in such a stylish and fun way.”

As is the case for many people of colour, South Asian communities have long faced the challenges posed by the beauty industry when it comes to issues such as colourism, whitewashed beauty standards and a lack of range in shades and textures. We’re starting to see a shift towards more inclusivity and the celebration of diversity, and seeing the likes of Simone Ashley – the first South Asian female lead to star in Netflix’s Bridgerton – be a global ambassador for L’Oreal Paris, is another example of that.
