Draw Your Box is a digital news publication dedicated to providing insightful and diverse coverage of the experiences of and issues impacting South Asians in Australia and globally.
It was founded in 2018 by Australian journalist, Alicia Vrajlal – who was previously Editor at HuffPost Australia and Senior Culture Editor at Refinery29 Australia. She’s also the daughter of Gujarati parents who migrated to Australia from Fiji in the 1980s.
While it originally began as a website about diversity, encouraging people to draw their own box and be their own person in all facets of life, it has now pivoted its focus to the South Asian diaspora.
Whether it’s Telugu film RRR winning an Oscar, or India becoming the first country to soft land on the South Pole of the moon, South Asians make a significant global contribution across culture, business, tech and innovation. There is indisputably a huge appetite for stories to be told by and about brown communities, and Draw Your Box is dedicated to delivering this through its diverse and informed approach to storytelling.
