SNL's only female Asian guest hosts Awkwafina and Lucy Liu finally meet

Crazy Rich Asians star Awkafina made headlines back in October when she became the second Asian women (after Lucy Liu 20 years ago) to land a guest host spot on Saturday Night Live.

Now the two movie stars have finally crossed paths, and frankly, the internet has understandably gone into meltdown.

"Two queens girls. And years later, we finally met. Love you Lucy @lucyliu," Awkwafina wrote on Instagram next to a black and white photo of the pair.

Charlie's Angels star Liu shared another snap of them, captioning it, "So this happened".

Back in October Awkafina scored the big gig in the US TV comedy scene when she guest hosted Saturday Night Live.

At the time, she took the opportunity to pay tribute to her ‘idol’ Liu and recounted standing in a line as a 11-year-old, waiting to catch a glimpse of Liu on SNL back in 2000.

“I was a kid, and I didn’t have a ticket, so I knew that I wasn’t getting in,” she recalled.

“I just wanted to be near the building. I remember how important that episode was for me, and how it totally it changed what I thought was possible for an Asian-American woman.”

Later Liu responded to her successor's lovely message, writing on Instagram, “Thank you gorgeous @Awkwafinafor the epic @nbcsnl shoutout and performance. Shine on Fellow Warrior!”

Let’s hope it doesn’t take another 18 years for the next Awkafina or Lucy Liu to front SNL.
