Off the back of the success of Captain Marvel, one movie fan has adapted Brie Larson’s iconic suit into a hijab.
Maliha Fairooz’s creation featuring the famous red, blue and gold, has been praised by fellow Muslim women who are yet to see themselves truly represented in that respect in one of pop culture’s greatest comic phenomenons.
“Decided to design a hijab for
@MarvelStudios newest badass hero #CaptainMarvel Higher. Further. Faster,” New York-based Maliha recently tweeted.
It wasn’t till Brie Larson responded that Maliha realised her creation had gone viral.
“Love it!” tweeted the actress who plays Carol Danvers in the 2019 film.
However this sort of cosplay is no new trend. Maliha and her friends regularly wear hijabs influenced by various characters to form the ‘Hijab Heroes’ at Comic Con events.
So far fictional superhero Kamala Khan, a Pakistani American from New Jersey, is Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline her own comic book.
She appeared in Captain Marvel No. 14 in 2013, before starring in solo series Ms Marvel in 2014.
